About HALT - Healthy Aging Living Transitions

HALT is HeartLine's Senior Suicide Awareness and Prevention Program.  The principle aim of HALT is to offer older adults education and information about suicidal awareness to encourage the attitude that each of us has the potential for change as long as we live.

This program is designed to do the following:

Increase awareness of seniors in crisis in Oklahoma.

Provide knowledge about the causes of suicidal behavior and warning signs that at-risk seniors display.

Teach ways to intervene with suicidal seniors.

Provide resources where seniors can get help.

Key Concepts of the HALT Program include:

Senior suicide is a significant problem in our state.

Many suicides are preventable if we are aware of the warning signs and intervene.

The three most important ways to intervene are ask the question, "Are you thinking of killing yourself?", listen, and go for help.

Through the HALT presentation, participants will learn the warning signs of suicide and what to do if such warning signs are noted, including ways to get help.  They will also learn to refocus their thoughts and actions for healthy aging.
