About Suicide Prevention & Awareness

Suicide awareness and prevention education programs provide information about the signals of suicide and how to get help. Oklahoma ranks 14th in the nation in deaths by suicide. Suicide is the 2nd leading cause of death among Oklahoma youth ages 10-24.

Education is the key to prevention. Trained volunteer presenters provide a 45-minute video-based program entitled Healthy Education for Life Program (HELP). HeartLine also offers a senior suicide prevention program aimed at the population with the highest rate of completed suicides, Healthy Aging Living Transitions (HALT). Nationally, suicide causes more than 30,000 deaths annually.

HeartLine seeks to address this serious problem with:

Crisis support from trained volunteers on the HeartLine's 24/7 CareLine at (405) 848-2273(CARE).

Those outside the (405) calling area should call the National Suicide Hotline 1-800-273-8255 (TALK).

Community Education programs are presented by staff and trained volunteers.

The Youth Suicide Awareness and Prevention Program and speakers are available for schools and community groups interested in suicide awareness and prevention information.  Contact Sherry Crosthwait at 840-9396 for more information or to request a presentation.
